In 1982, SE-1 was split up into two sections. Tutelo Lodge became a part of the new SE-8. The first official function of the section was the 1982 Indian Seminar hosted by Tutelo Lodge (from Tutelo Lodge History).

In 1982, areas in the Southeast Region were reorganized. Section SE-1 was divided into SE-8 (Virginia lodges) and SE-9 (MD, DE, DC, WV, VA). That same year they held a joint conclave, hosted by Nentego 20 at Camp Rodney. The patch for this event still showed SE-1, as it was ordered before the section was split. SE-8 and SE-9 also held a joint Indian Seminar that September. The patch for this seminar is the only patch that ever showed SE-9, because the following year all five lodges from SE-9 were transferred to the Northeast Region (from OA Section List site).
