Kecoughtan Lodge 1970 Fall Fellowship

The 1970 Fall Fellowship was held October 30-November 1 at Camp Kiwanis of Tidewater Council’s Pipsico Scout Reservation. Since I don’t have the edition of the Kecoughtan Kryer that includes an article about this event in the Kryer Archives I can’t share many of the details about it.  It is notable that Lodge calendars included in 1970 editions of the Kryer as late as July list the Fall Ordeal location as “To be announced.” The October Kryer announced the upcoming Fall Fellowship with the headline “Pipsico’s the PLACE” and included thanks to Blue Heron Lodge for lending their camp for the weekend.

The unique aspect of the emblem you see pictured above is that virtually every single one issued for this event is unique, because the patch was originally manufactured with the Lodge number “453” instead of the correct “463.” As a result each patch was corrected with additional stitching to change the “5” to a “6” and the result is that there are variations among them. Below is a photo of the reverse of the patch where you can see the additional stitching indicated by the yellow arrow.

The original Blue Book listings for Kecoughtan Lodge activity patches list two version of this patch, one with “453” and one with “463,” probably since some attempts to modify the “5” to a “6” were more successful than others. Below are examples from two of these patches:
