Notes

In late 1955 research of the original name of Lodge 470 revealed that “Amanquemack” was not an accurate translation of “shark’s tooth” in the Delaware Indian language, so it was changed to “Amangamek Wipit.” The original lodge totem of the Washington Monument bisected by an arrow superimposed upon a shark’s tooth, because they were often found on the Chesapeake shores of Camp Roosevelt.

Camp Roosevelt, Maryland’s first permanent Boy Scout Camp, is considered one of the earliest “permanent” camps in the country. After many restorations, it is still in use today as a private residence (from Bayside History Museum web site).

Kecoughtan Lodge won a contest for the design of the 1956 3-C Pow Wow patch.
